Can you disagree deeply with someone and still owe them fairness, dignity, and kindness?

A fictional community must decide how to allocate a shared service used by people with different beliefs and backgrounds. Explore dignity, justice, and practical fairness without pretending that one text or historical example describes every Muslim society or resolves every modern legal question.

The shared decision

A neighborhood learning center has funding for one new evening program. One proposal would add language classes; another would extend a quiet study room; a third would create transport support for people who cannot get to the center.

People from several faiths and backgrounds use the center. They disagree about which service should come first, and some do not attend the planning meeting.

The council needs to decide how to use the fund. It does not need everyone to share the same beliefs before it can ask what would be fair.

Reflect

What would you want the council to know about who uses the center and who is missing from the conversation?
